The English Winter – ending in July,
To recommence in August.
Summer is the hottest season. At the summer solstice – usually around June 21st, the days are longest and the nights are therefore shortest. Day length decreases as the season progresses. When it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere, it is winter in the Southern Hemisphere.
Schools and universities normally have a summer break to take advantage of the warmer weather. People spend more time outdoors, they do more sport, go to the beach, or have picnics.
Travelling is also a popular activity during the summer holidays. Lots of summer jobs are offered as the recreation, tourism, restaurant, hotel and retail industries peak during these months.
Summer is typically a low point in television viewing, and channels do not schedule new episodes of their most popular shows until September. They instead offer low-cost reality television and so many reruns that it is impossible not to see the same programmes again and again.
There is also a wide range of music festivals held everywhere. You can find your favourite style and location. Some of them are attended by thousands, but you can also enjoy smaller events and have lots of fun.
Happy English learning!!
